In the Eye of the Storm

A hike in the Foothills with Christian sounded like a swell idea today.

And then we noticed the storm rolling in.

We decided to high-tail it to the top of that mountain before it got bad.

And we made it to the top of the mountain in time to witness the storm hit the valley below. For a bit, we thought it was going to just miss us.

We were not so lucky.

I took the above shot as Christian blocked me from the sideways stinging hail and before we crawled under a bush for cover and watched the lightning and listened to the thunder boom right overhead. We sat under that bush for about 10 minutes, soaked to the skin, before we decided that resistance was futile. So we carefully walked/trotted down the mountain, shielding our eyes and cursing the storm and laughing at our ridiculous state. That mountain turned into a mud river.

Thank you, August 19th, for reminding me that hot showers really can be divine. These last couple of weeks had caused me to forget.
